From Salzburg with Love

“From Salzburg with Love,” was based on Francesca’s first time visiting Salzburg. Using a variety of brightly colored fabrics and threads, a ‘stitched scape’ was made. The stitched scape is a process Francesca discovered that is made up of found and reworked fabrics and then stitched together to make a composition of a landscape. She visits this process frequently in her work, as it is a connective way to study a view that is vast and full of intricate details.

This piece is sewed entirely by hand from Francesca and took about 10 months to produce.

Francesca Rosati

Francesca Rosati is an Italian-American painter and arts educator currently based in Vienna, Austria. Originally from Seattle, Washington, she previously balanced her time between teaching visual arts full-time and maintaining a dedicated studio practice. Working primarily in oil, acrylic, collage, and textile, Francesca is deeply connected to her roots in Europe; her work often references its antiquity and nature. Recently, she has focused on capturing the habitual moments and the overlooked objects of daily life. Capturing fleeting interactions on public transportation and observing items such as matchboxes and butter wrappers - the act of depicting these subjects aims to encourage 'a slow down' to appreciate the small details of daily life. Francesca earned her BFA in Painting (2019) and her Master of Arts in Teaching (2020) from the Rhode Island School of Design. During her studies, she participated in RISD's European Honors Program (2018) in Rome, Italy. She was awarded the Seebacher Prize for Fine Arts by the Austrian American Foundation in 2022 and took part in the Awakenings at Wick Artist Residency the same year. Most recently, she was a resident artist at GlogauAIR in Berlin, participating in both the on-site and online programs from October 2024 to March 2025.
